Who's Hyped for STRANGE ACADEMY ?

STRANGE ACADEMY will launch this March as a new ongoing series helmed by best-selling comic book veterans: Eisner Award-winning writer Skottie Young (Deadpool, Rocket Raccoon) and critically acclaimed artist Humberto Ramos (Amazing Spider-Man, Champions). The new series will bring together a whole new class of students from Earth, Weirdworld, Asgard, the Dark Dimension, and beyond to learn how to control their gifts in the Mystic Arts under Doctor Strange, Brother Voodoo, The Ancient One, Scarlet Witch, Magik, Hellstrom, and all of Marvel’s most iconic magicians. But with a new threat looming on the horizon, is it too late?

“What we’re really trying to do is tell those classic coming of age stories that we’ve seen in so many other properties or other projects out there in the world whether it be TV or film or novels or comics,” Young told the AP. “Whether it’s kids running around mazes or kids at a magic school or people running around trying to survive a post-apocalyptic landscape.”

“Over a year ago, I was driving Skottie down from the airport in Mexico, and out of the blue, he asked me what I wanted to do after working on Spider-Man,” said Ramos. “He began to pitch me on an incredible project for the rest of the weekend…and I’m excited to now say that project is STRANGE ACADEMY! Like all great stories, they all start with an idea…and this idea blew me away. We can’t share too much yet, but if you stick around, you’ll get to experience magic like you’ve never seen before in the Marvel Universe. Welcome to Strange Academy! Man, I love the first day of school!”

STRANGE ACADEMY will center on Emily Bright (a girl who discovered magical powers since birth), Doyle Dormammu (the illegitimate son of the Dark Dimension’s ruler), and their new classmates as mysteries begin to unfold not just for the students at the school, but for the entire Marvel Universe. With a new cast rooted in Marvel’s history and fan-favorite characters, this series will be the perfect introduction for both fans just diving into comics and for fans who have been following Marvel for years.

Set in the mystical backdrop of New Orleans, The Big Easy will play a pivotal role in STRANGE ACADEMY with its rich local culture and innate magic of the French Quarter, the Bayou, the Swamps, and more. To capture the essence of STRANGE ACADEMY, Young and Ramos conducted their research firsthand.

“There’s a nice history and folklore about magic and the mystic arts and the dark arts and things like that that kind of surround the mythos of New Orleans,” said Young. “Having just gone there myself for my 40th, I thought that would be a great place to set it.”

Moses Magnum Watches... The Haunting of Hill House

In the week or so The hunting of Hill House been out it has garnered a lot of praise, as well as caused some insomnia nightmares and panic attacks. it is every bit achievement in family grief psychology as it is terrifying, and it is by far one of the best things I’ve ever seen on Netflix. The Haunting Of Hill House centers around a family’s loss and how it connects to their experience in the past with the eponymous Hill house and its ghosts. It plays very well with they tried and true concept of a family moving into a haunted house. But where it shines is portraying how grief, trauma and guilt are every bit as haunting as the ghosts that haunt Hill house. It’s almost as if character in it represents a stage of grief to me.

What I love about it is the it gets incredibly creepy throughout each episode. Mike Flanagan does such a superb job of setting tone and building tension that he doesn’t require jump scares. I’m serious !! There’s I think like 3 jump scares in the whole season. Flanagan builds tension every second, to the point that things that shouldn’t be scary become spine tingling. The way Flanagan sets a creepy scene just by the color of the walls in the background or a deteriorating doorway or a facial reflection off to the side, is the icing on this ghastly cake.

One of my favorite aspects of this show is the casting. All of the kids in the flashbacks look related to each other. And the older versions of the characters are acted really well. All the female characters look like they could be Carla Cugino’s relatives. Timothy Hutton is great in it it took five episodes to have for him to say a full sentence but every time he was in it while he was silent was a performance full of gravitas. If I had more time I could break down all the cast and their contributions but you might have to tune in to Fantastic Forum for that.

A little foot note for you before you watch it; there’s ghosts everywhere so keep your eyes peeled.

So today there was a leaked  set of photos from the Spiderman: far from home movie set. the reveal a “new” costume design which is the same old costume it’s just red and black instead of red and blue. And you know social media, they’re going f***ing nuts over it. I have news for You uninitiated in Spiderman people; just because it resembles superior Spiderman in color doesn’t mean I thats it. now ultimately I don’t care about what The new costume looks like. all I care about is that it doesn’t have the shitty AI in it. ...

Spider-Man stealth suit revealed?

25-09-2018 Fantastic Forum Blog moses magnum - avatar moses magnum

Apparently everybody is thwipping themselves over the latest leak for Spider-Man far from home. It features a dark costumed Spider-Man, so of course everyone who sees it, be they news sites or instagram meme makers, make the single bound leap to Spider-Man’s stealth suit from Dan Slott’s run on the character’s comic adventure. If you were to ask your humble white male cis blogger, I’d tell you that those people are a bunch of morons. That suit could be anything. It could be for all I know the armored suit from the 90’s all you see is a dark shape...

About C2E2

23-04-2017 Fantastic Forum Blog Oscar - avatar Oscar

A little while ago I wrote about why the small cons have an advantage over the gigantic San Diego Comic Con. So it was in this spirit that went down to Chicago, IL for C2E2. The trip simply confirmed everything I said before. The show floor itself is divided into three sections. The autograph area, where for a small fee you can get an autograph and a picture from one of your favorite supporting cast members. The main floor, where you can buy just about anything comic book or fantasy related. Unlike the big cons there’s nothing new here, none of the...

People Should Go To Wonder-Con

06-04-2017 Fantastic Forum Blog Oscar - avatar Oscar

More people should be going to any and all of the little “baby-cons” across the country. I’ve made this statement to as many people as would listen. Partially in the hope of reducing the giant crowds at the real Comic-Con in San Diego, but also because these little cons are what SDCC used to be. Each year I make the trip down to San Diego I see more and more of the comics being swallowed up by whatever the latest upcoming blockbuster needs to advertise that year. It’s gotten to that point that more and more people are referring to it...

Ironfist: A Review Within A Review

28-03-2017 Fantastic Forum Blog Oscar - avatar Oscar

There has been a lot of discussion about the latest Marvel/Netflix collaboration “Iron Fist”. I was very worried when every review I read about the show said almost the exact same horrible things. While I normally prefer to read a review of the entire series, I also believe that 6 episodes (almost half the series) is more than enough time to establish your characters and hook in the viewer. When time finally arrived for me to watch it for myself, I cracked open a bottle of whiskey to help me get through the difficult chore ahead of me. Five episodes...
